In 1962, Rachel  Carson who wrote 'Silent Spring' about the harms of pesticides like DDT in the creation of large scale crops, gave birth to the envirnomental movement. Our planet's geological history has arguably  now switched from a beautifully balanced Heliocene which allowed us to thrive as a speicies  to The Anthropocene,  in which 'man' has changed the very surface of the 'his' planet. The layers of our progress, much like the fossilised layers it has been so reliant on, will be composed of more chicken bones, plastics and radiation than almost anything else.  Before the 16th Century and the Enlighenment, we knew our place in a natural world we could not control; but then our hubris as a species took over.
