"In the living as well as non-living parts of nature, the trained eye encounters wide-spread evidence of periodic systems.” Hans Jenny.
In 2005 as my final undergraduate project, sponsored by London South Bank University and Dulux, I became interested in the nature of the ‘perfect line’ and used the physical laws to replace my hand byThe Heisenberg Certainty/Uncertainty machine. The first results were sometimes symmetrical, but became increasingly chaotic and yet always pleasing to the eye. It was only when a Biologist, entered the room and said ‘Looks like the feathers of a Secretary Bird to me’ that a moment of insight led to my interest in Cymatics, or the study of vibration made visible.
Periodic motion, harmonics; could they be responsible for the shapes we see in nature?
